Leadership Coaching

Directed 1-on-1 leadership coaching from Vanessa who is a group practice owner and Certified Daring Way Facilitator™.

Leading a team is incredibly challenging. Learning to be a brave leader is a practice. This offering empowers you to build a team culture that is mutual, respectful, and supportive. Brave leadership is about being brave and afraid at the very same time.

You’ll walk away knowing…

  • Insight into your leadership style and how that impacts the business you are trying to build and the people you are trying to lead.

  • Ways to leverage the people around you so that you can build a team that trusts one another and has a connection to each other.

  • How to ensure that you are honoring your work and capacity as a leader.

Do you desire to become a braver leader? One who has a clear vision and a distinct voice, demonstrates a willingness to step up when it matters most, and leans into courage?

Then you’re in the right place.

Deeply inspired by Brené Brown, here’s my leadership story.

I first encountered Brené’s work in 2009 when I was in one of her graduate-level courses at the University of Houston in 2009. It was a shame class, and I just remember feeling so strongly about everything she had to say. Her words clearly left an impact, and I became a Certified Daring Way Facilitator™ in 2014.

Fast forward a little bit to 2018 when I started my group therapy practice Colors of Austin Counseling, and I found myself needing to navigate the role of leader. In the years since, I have experienced disappointment, failure, heartache, shame, and every other roller coaster of emotion that comes with leading a team.

Brené’s work continues to help guide my journey through leadership and I live in courage and vulnerability all the time, every day.

The Dare to Lead model has transformed the way I lead because it has allowed me to address my inner critic, my shame, and my identity triggers. It has also given me permission to embrace all the parts of me that go into owning who I am as a person and a boss.

Dare to Lead is all about:

  • Getting clear with yourself first about who you are, what you value, and how this impacts the way you show up with your team.

  • Moving from transactional leadership to transformational leadership.

  • Choosing courage over comfort.

  • Operating from a place that understands courageous leadership is about ‘power with’ versus ‘power over.’

  • Humanizing people and leading from a place of empathy and boundaries.

Dare to Lead + Brave & Well =
a whole new approach to leadership coaching

Picture this. I am a woman. I am a woman of color. I am a mother. I am a business owner. All of these parts of my identity intersect. I have been a part of systems, both professional and personal, that have told me that who I am is not welcome, and if I want a seat at the table, I will have to shrink, break, bend, and adjust myself in order to “make it.”

What people don't realize when you are a woman of color in leadership is that the responsibilities, sacrifices, and weight that comes with that title are tremendous.

It's important to speak into existence the world we hope to have and the world we don't want to have. If you are not a BIPOC, I encourage you, don't just scoot over to let BIPOCs come to the table, get up and let us take your seat.

Diversity and inclusion are not just about looking around the room to SEE something that is different, it's about being willing to HEAR our differences.

Without that, BIPOCs enter into and have to survive an environment where their actual lived experiences are discounted.

With my leadership coaching, we will navigate all of this nuance together.

The work that I have done around shame resilience, authenticity, courage, and vulnerability has exposed the very parts of me that I’ve had to hide. I’ve learned to take up space, speak my truth, and own the parts of my story that I’ve previously had to silence in order to be successful. I am no longer hiding, I am owning it all with pride.

I am continually learning how to lead with courageous language through my words and actions with a willingness to risk everything I've built out of nothing. It’s scary and liberating. I want this for you, too.

This work has taught me that my values are the one thing that no one can take from me, and if I can identify what those are, align with them, and revisit them often, the path ahead becomes more clear.

But don’t take my word for it!

Here’s how Leadership Coaching supported Pearl in structuring her vision as she transitioned into a leadership role.

Through our time together, we’ll explore questions like…

  • How do you lead in the workplace as a person of color?

  • What does that really look like?

  • What are things to consider when managing your own needs on top of the expectations of others?

  • If true self-care is about boundary setting, how does your historical trauma impact your capacity in the workplace?

  • If you are in a leadership role, how do you prepare yourself, your team, and your business to take a sabbatical or go on maternity leave and transition out of your ownership role temporarily while someone else steps in to cover your position?

You deserve balance, support, and colleagues/employees/bosses that understand you as a person — not just a worker bee.

Are you ready to do this together?

Let’s schedule a 30-minute Discovery Call to connect and talk more.

Curious about the specifics?

01

If we are new to working together I highly encourage you to consider starting with the Foundational Leadership Coaching Program.

In this program, we will meet bi-weekly for 3 months in 60-minute sessions, engaging in the work inspired by the Dare to Lead model and enriched by my own experiences from 7 years of leadership as well as coaching, training, and mentorship I’ve received along the way. I have found that having these first few months together really creates a powerful baseline for our work together.

02

Instead of following a set curriculum, we will use a much more free-form approach tailored to your needs and aptitudes as a leader and business owner.

I may offer resources and activities, journaling prompts, and meditations from my toolbox to help you better develop and explore ideas related to leadership and growth. You will also receive detailed call notes from each session for you to revisit later.

03

For those who are in need of support through a specific challenge or transition period, we may work together through my One-Month Coaching Intensive.

In this program, we will meet weekly for 1 month in 60-minute sessions.

What this is not…

A therapy session. These sessions are meant to support your growth as a leader, but they cannot replace therapy for your own personal growth, mental health, and healing journey.

An opportunity to pass off doing the work. I will guide you toward solutions and provide tools and ideas for you to use, but ultimately, you are responsible for following through and doing the work. I am here to be a massive source of encouragement, but for real transformation to happen, you have to be committed to doing the work, serious about making changes, and dedicated to investing the time to put all the pieces into motion.

A quick fix. As with all good things…it will take time. Remember that building your business is like running a marathon, not a sprint. It’s also a living, breathing organism that will grow and evolve with you, so it’s not something that you may simply set it once and then leave it.

For a business to continue to prosper, you’ll have to continue to nurture it—and yourself! Owning your own private practice can be immensely rewarding, and it’s not easy. There will be doubt, frustration, emotion, and growing pains. Those are all beautiful, normal, and always welcome here.

Are you ready to be the brave leader you know you are capable of becoming?

Let’s get started.
